PWS – WrestleReunion (1.28.12) DVD Review

Posted: September 5, 2012 in 2012, PWS

1. Arik Royal vs. Adam Page

These two were kicking it off but then it was over just like that. *SPOILER ALERT* Vader comes out and does some damage to both guys. Fun Segment!
Grade: DUD

2. The New Age Outlaws (Road Dogg & Bad Ass Billy Gunn) vs. The Steiner Brothers (Rick & Scott) (Special Guest Referee: Mick Foley)

One of my dream matches has finally come true. However, all four are way past their prime and no longer work as they used to back in the 90’s. For their age, they can still go and do some goodies in the process. Outlaws with their DX shenanigans are still effective and go the crowd popping good. This match was driven by nostalgia all the way and I wouldn’t blame anyone for that.
Grade: C-

3. British World of Sports Rules Match
Colt Cabana vs. Fit Finlay

Thankfully I’ve seen World of Sport in the past and understood the concept immediately. The rules are the following: The match consists of 3-5 minute rounds and a pinfall or submission can end the bout at any moment. There was a lot of comedic spots and good chain wrestling both men. It’s a very weird match if you don’t know how the concept works but for those who do can relate to it and appreciate it.
Grade: C

4. 7OH!4 (Caleb Konley & Cedric Alexander) vs The UnHoly Alliance (Mikey Whipwreck & Tajiri)

This was pretty fun to watch as the four clicked instantly. Whipwreck & Tajiri brought a lot of nostalgia from the old ECW days and made the match feel like an ECW match. Cedric Alexander was very good here and I give props to the man for providing a lot of the dynamic in the ring.
Grade: B-

5. DEMUS 316 vs. Mascarita Dorada

Mexican Minis give it all here. In Mexico, mini’s are an extremely crucial element in their lucha product in which they’re a special attraction to keep the crowd entertained by opening their shows. As expected, the minis brought a lot of entertainment and comedy into the match and was highly appreciated by the crowd present. A lot of people really don’t like the Minis but I appreciate them for what they are and they serve a purpose to keep the show going.
Grade: B-

6. Street Fight
Tommy Dreamer vs. Kevin Steen

Tommy Dreamer has made a living out of competing in these type of matches which was a standard procedure in the old ECW. Steen ever since going solo a couple of years ago has adopted a brawling style that blends very well that is quite similar to Dreamer’s. This was wild and crazy just like you would expect from both men.
Grade: B

7. Roderick Strong vs. Jake Manning

It started off a bit slow but then it picked up. Manning held his own pretty well against the veteran in Strong. Good nearfall sequences that got the crowd anted up.
Grade: B-

8. Davey Richards vs. Harry Smith

Smith was unleashed to his full potential here against the American Wolf. This is a very different side of Harry Smith that you were accustomed to see as he is no longer under the WWE and has more freedom to apply his arsenal at its fullest. Davey is the kind of guy that can bring the best out of people and with Harry being billed as the future of the business by many veterans & legends you can totally see why. Props to both men.
Grade: A-

8. El Generico & The Great Sasuke vs. The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson)

Where should I start here? The Great Sasuke is one of the most praised Junior Heavyweights in Japan and a legend in his own right. The man can still go at his age and sure left a spark of his talent in everyone participating here. Generico & Young Bucks are always an asset in wrestling and even more when they’re in the same match. Definitely worth the watch.
Grade: A-

9. WrestleReunion Legends “Wrestle Royale”
Participants: Matt Classic, Lanny Poffo, Rock Riddle, Carlos Colon, Gangrel, Raven, Mondo Guerrero, Robbie E, Virgil, Greg Valentine, Konnan, Dan Severn, Jimmy Hart, Jesse Hernandez, Piloto Suicida, Kevin Sullivan, Tommy Dreamer, Brutus Beefcake, The Godfather, Bradley Ray Schreck
 (Special Enforcer: Ken Shamrock)

Nothing much to say. You know how this works.
Grade: DUD

Final Thoughts:

This was a very entertaining show with lots of nostalgia and adrenaline. Very good interaction by the legends that left a good taste in everyone’s mouth. The young guys worked like pros with legends and created a really good spectacle for those present.
