WCW- Greed (3.18.01) DVD Review

Posted: September 22, 2012 in 2001, WCW

1. Kwee Wee vs. Jason Jett

For those who are curious, Jett is ECW’s EZ Money who ventured through WCW on it’s last month of existence. This was pretty good for an opener and quite a shocker that you wouldn’t expect to happen.
Grade: C+

2. Cruiserweight Tag Team Championships
Elix Skipper & Kid Romeo vs. The Filthy Animals (Rey Mysterio Jr. & Billy Kidman)

This was a tournament final to crown the new champions and this was a very solid performance by both teams. Skipper is really good and did nothing but good things as cruiserweight champion the year prior and Kid Romeo is a potential prospect. Kidman & Rey are dandy as always.
Grade: B-

3. Shawn Stasiak vs. Bam Bam Bigelow

This is just bad. Bam Bam has stepped down a lot from what he used to do and facing an extremely overrated Stasiak didn’t help.
Grade: D

4. Team Canada (Lance Storm & Mike Awesome) vs. Hugh Morrus & Konnan

Pointless match that really brings absolutely nothing to the table. Storm & Awesome were heavily misused in WCW, but then it again it’s WCW.
Grade: D+

5. Cruiserweight Championships
Chavo Guerrero Jr. (c) vs. Shane Helms

This was pretty good but it fell short to their opener at Sin. Helms & Guerrero were worthy of WWE contracts and they made their way and have lengthy careers there.
Grade: C+

6. Tag Team Championships
Sean O’Haire & Chuck Palumbo (c) vs. Totally Buff (Lex Luger & Buff Bagwell)

Squash
Grade: DUD

7. Ernest Miller vs. Kanyon

Miller in full James Brown mode was dancing and kicking his way to the match, which made Kanyon do absolutely nothing. Very entertaining but horrible match.
Grade: D

8. United States Championship
Rick Steiner (c) vs. Booker T

Horrendous, Appalling, Disastrous.
Grade: F+

9. Kiss My Ass Match
The Rhodes (Dustin & Dusty) vs. Jeff Jarrett & Ric Flair

Losers get to kiss the winners’s assess, yikes. We already had the elders beat the crap out of each other 20 years prior and by keeping them around doing this in the new millennium shows how much politics play in WCW. As for the “young guns” , they’ve seen waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better days.
Grade: D-

10. WCW Championship
Falls Count Anywhere
Scott Steiner (c) vs. Diamond Dallas Page

This was not a bad match at all but for main event standards it felt short. Typical DDP brawl match that blended pretty well with the crowd and Steiner, ewww.
Grade: C

Final Thoughts:

3rd and final stage of the Titanic sinking and it wasn’t as bad as the other two but still served as a typical WCW PPV that will always be remembered for being the last of it’s kind. TV wise WCW was pretty good regardless of it’s last breath but the PPV’s were major stinkers. Fortunately, 8 days later, the life support was removed and WCW closed it’s doors for good.

Verdict: 5/10
