1. King of Trios Quarter-Final Match
Team JWP (Commando Bolshoi, Kurakagi & Kaori Yoneyama) vs. F.I.S.T. (Icarus, Chuck Taylor & Johnny Gargano) w/Sugar Dunkerton

F.I.S.T. who are the uber heels of Chikara have the perfect combination of everything a professional wrestler asks for. They mesh well with anyone including female foreigners. I couldn’t have asked for a better match up for Team JWP as they delivered one hell of a contest.
Grade: B

2. The 1-2-3 Kid vs. Mark Angelosetti w/Veronica Ticklefeather

Big break for Mr. Touchdown as he faces a WWE legend. Unfortunately this match was way too quick and unexpected considering the talent involved. It didn’t look well with live crowd either. I believe timing was the strain here as this is just a special attraction and not a main focus encounter.
Grade: D-

3. King of Trios Quarter-Final Match
The Spectral Envoy (Ultramantis Black, Hallowicked & Frightmare) vs. The Batiri (Obariyon, Kodama & Kobald) w/Ophidian

My predictions had it that these two trios were gonna face each other in the finals but no complaints whatsoever from me. They’ve been wrestling each other for almost two years now and one thing I can say is that it never goes bland. Both trios delivered a quality match.
Grade: B-

4. The Colony (Fire Ant & Green Ant) vs. Unique Gundan (Ebessan & Takoyakida)

This was alright but nothing special to remember except for the bugspray stunt that also failed to impress.
Grade: C

5. King of Trios Quarter-Final Match
Mike Quackenbush, Jigsaw & Manami Toyota vs. Team SENDAI Girls (Meiko Satomura, DASH Chisako & Sendai Sachiko)

Quack is a wrestling machine plain and simple. There’s no doubt about it that he’s “The Master of 1,000 Holds” with his dynamic arsenal that blends well with anyone. The SENDAI Girls were very good and going up against legend Manami Toyota and two of Chikara’s Finest made them stronger than most would expect. The dissension of Quack & Jigsaw once again played a role in this match up.
Grade: B

6. Sugar Dunkerton vs. Tatanka

The newest member of F.I.S.T. is out to prove that he’s worthy enough to wear the tights. Icarus & Gargano showed up to observe Dunkerton while Chuck Taylor is at the commentary booth also watching. This felt too long for it’s purpose that was to showcase the Native American and to write the new chapter of F.I.S.T. OK but dragged.
Grade: C

7. King of Trios Quarter-Final Match
Team Extreme (Tommy Dreamer, Jerry Lynn & 2 Cold Scorpio) vs. Team Ring of Honor (The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) & Mike Bennett) w/Maria Kanellis

This is the final Quarter-Final match in the tournament and I couldn’t have asked for a better match up for either of them. Veteran vs. Youth was very well executed and the shenanigans by both trios was played to perfection. The old guys still got it plain and simple. Very fun match to watch.
Grade: B

8. Chikara Grand Championship
Eddie Kingston (c) vs. Tadasuke

Tadasuke was the 2011 Young Lion’s Cup winner. The kid is quite talented and I’ll give him an instant plug for anyone who’s interested in seeing his work to checkout Osaka Pro. This was a battler between wits & brute strength which is quite fitting to both respectively. Great contest to say the least.
Grade: B+

Segment: Immediately after the match, Tim Donst attacked Kingston proclaiming his insanity since his head shaving. He also wants finish some business they had years ago when Kingston bullied and tortured up and coming Donst.

Final Thoughts:

The whole King of Trios concept was in full effect with their bonus special attractions. However this time around it didn’t follow up Night 1 and will definitely not surpass Night 3 because usually the in-between show is relatively the weaker of the bunch. I call this the Rotten Cheeseburger with sweet buns and bitter meat. Don’t get me wrong, this is a good show nevertheless and I recommend this DVD to go along with the rest of the tournament to experience the whole extravaganza.

Verdict: 8/10

1. King of Trios First Round Match
The Colony (Fire Ant & Green Ant) & assailANT vs. Team SENDAI Girls (Meiko Satomura, DASH Chisako & Sendai Sachiko)

This was very awkward in match booking but it’s also intriguing. SENDAI’s are very spunky and are just as good as any male performer out there which immediately made this match a success against a veteran team in the Colony.
Grade: C+

2. King of Trios First Round Match
3.0 (Scott Parker & Shane Matthews) & Gran Akuma vs. The Batiri (Obariyon, Kodama & Kobald) w/Ophidian

3.0 pairing with Akuma is the most awkward and mismatched pairing I’ve ever seen but fortunately they clicked very well and know how to treat their crowd. Batiri obviously the uber-heels and with forming an alliance with Ophidian and being guided by Delirious can only mean more dirty shenanigans which was very in effect here.
Grade: C+

3. King of Trios First Round Match
Team Osaka Pro (Kikutaro, Ebessan & Takoyakida) vs. F.I.S.T. (Icarus, Chuck Taylor & Johnny Gargano) w/Sugar Dunkerton

Dunkerton in F.I.S.T. needs time to adjust but I’m positive he’ll do alright. Team Osaka consists of the Japanese King’s of Comedy. The shenanigans were hilarious and the match itself was well executed.
Grade: B-

4. King of Trios First Round Match
Mike Quackenbush, Jigsaw & Manami Toyota vs. The Swarm (combatANT & deviANT) & Soldier Ant
w/The Shard

The team of Quack & Jigsaw have been showing some dissension as of late especially on Quack’s part with being more unmerciful and ruthless than ever that doesn’t suit well with his best friend Jigsaw. Everyone did a spot on job and Toyota is like wine, the older the better. However this match was heavily storyline driven with Jigsaw & Quack while Soldier Ant being in GEKIDO is another road of dissension.
Grade: B-

5. King of Trios First Round Match
The Throwbacks (Dasher Hatfield, Mark Angelosetti & Matt Classic) w/Veronica Ticklefeather vs. Team JWP (Commando Bolshoi, Tsubasa Kuragaki & Kaori Yuneyama)

The trio of ladies come from the Japanese Women Pro-Wrestling Project in Tokyo. They were very impressive and managed to fit in perfectly and complement the Throwbacks and their respective gimmicks. Bolshoi who was clearly the leader of the trio is a must watch performer and I recommend you to immediately go to youtube and search some of her work. The Throwbacks were hilarious as always but against a trio of women make them instant legends.
Grade: B-

Segment: Originally the next match  was to have the Envoy face off against the first ever quartet in King of Trios history, The Submission Squad, however they could not make it to the show on time and as a Chikara tradition, they take out names from a hat and the first three to come out are in the match. After swing and misses with Stan Hansen & Kwang; The Mysterious and Handsome Stranger was the first to come out and immediately was in front of Mr. Touchdown and Veronica to which the former got scared and fell while the latter was petrified and smitten with the masked man. Later, Kazuaki Mihara who is a regular from Osaka Pro was brought in as the second member of the team and finally WWE Hall of Famer Tito Santana’s name was drawn and came out to a standing ovation and we have ourselves a match.

6. King of Trios First Round Match
The Spectral Envoy (Ultramantis Black, Hallowicked & Frightmare) vs. The Mysterious and Handsome Stranger, Kazuaki Mihara & Tito Santana

Envoy were total pros, Stranger was just perfect and Santana still has it. The shenanigans from Black are always an instant win. Unfortunately Mihara wasn’t what I would’ve expected and kinda watered down this potential match but I’ve seen worse. All in all this match was OK and acceptable.
Grade: C

7. King of Trios First Round Match
The Faces of Pain (Meng, The Barbarian & The Warlord) vs. Team ROH (The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) & Mike Bennett) w/Maria Kanellis

WOW! Meng and the Powers of Pain look like they’ve never aged and look as terrifying as they were 20 years.  The younger and uber heel team from Ring of Honor complement the veteran team very well and managed put out some great spots from the 80’s that can only be done by the best of the best. But this is 2012, time has passed and things have changed a lot since then and now it’s a more fast paced and dynamic showcase. The Faces of Pain were in a disadvantage but the shenanigans made it worth the watch.
Grade: C+

8. King of Trios First Round Match
Team WWF (The 1-2-3 Kid, Aldo Montoya & Tatanka) vs. The Extreme Trio (Tommy Dreamer, Jerry Lynn & 2 Cold Scorpio)

If you watched wrestling in the 90’s you know who these people are. These guys are way past their prime and are still going at it with 20 years of experience under each performer so we got a veteran fest here. A lot of these guys are not in the shape in they used to be, especially Montoya, but one thing they all have in common is that they were workhorses in their days have a very large resume of great matches. Despite the physical limitations they had a hell of a match and had a lot of fun doing it as if they were old high school buddies having a Grown Ups episode. Perfect way to close night 1.
Grade: B

Final Thoughts:

This years King of Trios started off in the right foot in my opinion. The variety of talent and selection was very wise because they represent different time periods and continents in the world of professional wrestling so you literally have everything in one basket. The veterans were spectacular, the international stars were impressive and the locals were professionals welcoming everyone into their home. This show is definitely recommended to go along with the rest of King of Trios which will be reviewed shortly.

Verdict: 7.5/10

1. Soldier Ant & The Swarm (combatANT & deviANT) vs. The Batiri (Obariyon, Kodama & Kobald)

This was the exact match from the previous night’s show except it’s Soldier Ant & The Swarm. Nothing much to say here.
Grade: C-

2. Saturyne vs. Tim Donst

Saturyne showed what she’s capable and she has good potential do become something in pro wrestling. Donst is such a major pro and beast and I’m still expecting the guy to go for tha Grand Championship by the end of the year.
Grade: C-

3. The Mysterious and Handsome Stranger vs.Lancelot Bravado

Stranger is definitely on my favorite list of Chikara pros in present time and this performance showed me why. Bravado was very solid here and I was impressed with this singles work.
Grade: C+

4. Mike Quackenbush & Jigsaw vs. GEKIDO (17 & The Shard)

Quack & Jiggy face their Bizarro clones in a very good showing. Quack’s rudo side in this match was spectacular and it’s interesting to see if he actually turns completely to the dark side.
Grade: B-

5. The Spectral Envoy (Ultramantis Black & Frightmare) vs. Arik Cannon & Darin Corbin

Very solid tag action and I like Corbin doing some Chikara from time to time. The slow-mo spot is hilarious and it gets everyone going crazy for it.
Grade: B-

6. Eddie Kingston vs. Harlem Bravado

The other Bravado gets a huge opportunity against the Grand Champion in a non-title match. This was relatively good and quite shocking to be honest. Bravado held his own pretty well and he along with his brother are approved singles performers.
Grade: B

7. The Colony (Fire Ant & Green Ant) & 3.0 (Scott Parker & Shane Matthews) vs. F.I.S.T. (Icarus, Chuck Taylor & Sugar Dunkerton) & Ophidian

Ophidian substitutes an absent Johnny Gargano. This was one hell of an Atomicos match. It had a great combination of wrestling, characterization, comedy and a lot more. Definitely one of my favorites.
Grade: B+

8. Young Lion’s Cup X Tournament Final
ACH vs. “Mr. Touchdown” Mark Angelosetti w/Veronica Ticklefeather & Dasher Hatfield

I would like to say that Chikara is a true genius of innovation. The Young Lion’s Cup is definitely a great opportunity for not only Chikara but the participants to showcase their talents and the fans to witness and support these performers. With that being said, Touchdown and ACH tore the house down and showed what they’re really capable of. Phenomenal performance.
Grade: B+

Final Thoughts:

This show is right off the positive alley. Good wrestling, good segments, good crowd so it’s definitely a win and YES! I recommend this show. Great show to  end the weekend on a countdown to King of Trios.

Verdict: 8/10

This show is very special in it’s own right. It’s a charity event raising funds for Baseballtown Charities, a local charity dedicated to keep baseball in Reading, Pennsylvania.

1. The Spectral Envoy (Ultramantis Black & Hallowicked) vs. GEKIDO (combatANT & assailANT)

Straight to the point opener that played it’s part well in the card.
Grade: C-

2. The Shard vs. Sugar Dunkerton

This was short for what these two can do but it’s understandable for the cause. For the amount of time they had, they were having a nice scientific wrestling match.
Grade: D

3. Allan Hunter & JJ Jackson vs. Devastation Corporation (Blaster McMassive & Max Smashmaster)

Devastation Corp. are physically and cosmetically the combination of The Road Warriors, Demolition & The Powers of Pain. As for the match, Go Figure!
Grade: DUD

4. Soldier Ant vs. Ophidian

This was going pretty good but then an unexpected no-finish overwhelmed me.
Grade: D

5. Mike Quackenbush, Frightmare & Fire Ant vs. The Batiri (Obariyon, Kodama & Kobald) w/Delirious

This was a fun trios match that follows the ole lucha recipe of tecnicos vs. rudos.
Grade: C

6. The Mysterious and Handsome Stranger vs. Grizzly Redwood

Damn it’s been a while since Grizzly was in Chikara but it’s great to see him back. This was pure comedy central all the way. Great entertainment.
Grade: D

7. Green Ant & Marty Jannetty vs. Los Ice Creams (Hijo del Ice Cream & Ice Cream Jr.)

Ice Creams are hilarious here interacting with the crowd and going bananas at an ice cream stand behind the crowd. This was a legit strait forward tag match just like the opener and wasn’t a drag.
Grade: C

8. Saturyne vs. Tim Donst

Saturyne has all the tools to become a great wrestling talent and is so far on the correct path. Donst has been low on the radar as of late and is quite intriguing to see where his direction leads. This was a very short match with good exposure by both.
Grade: DUD

9. The Throwbacks (Mark Angelosetti & Dasher Hatfield) w/Veronica Ticklefeather vs. F.I.S.T. (Icarus & Chuck Taylor)

Hatfield main eventing this particular show is logical and appropriate. This was match was quite enjoyable with one of my now favorite moments in Chikara History, Swirly by Mr. Touchdown to give an old school flavor (pun intended).
Grade: C+

*NOTE* This show is for charity and I refuse to give this a final thought or a verdict. I’m all up for this special occasion and my hat’s off to Chikara for giving back to the local community that has supported them for the past ten years. Regardless of the grades, I enjoyed this event to it’s fullest because it was a legit show for entertainment that is quite worth the expense.

1. The Colony (Fire Ant, Green Ant) & assailANT vs. The Batiri (Obariyon, Kodama & Kobald) w/Ophidian

Director of Fun Wink Vavasseur decided to put assailANT with the Colony for King of Trios which is hilarious since Soldier Ant is with the Swarm. The funniest part is that assailANT looks thrilled and is cooperating with the Colony unlike Soldier Ant who hates the Swarm and doesn’t look out for the team. This Colony showcase against the Batiri was a spectacular preview for King of Trios but the match didn’t click well and we can easily tell where it’s coming from.
Grade: C-

2. The Mysterious and Handsome Stranger vs. Tim Donst

These two had a decent showing and the Stranger sure is entertaining.
Grade: C

3. Young Lion’s Cup Semi-Final Match
Anthony Stone vs. “Mr. Touchdonw” Mark Angelosetti w/Veronica Ticklefeather & Dasher Hatfield

These two had a very good match that exceeded my expectations. Really good chemistry from both.
Grade: B-

4. Elimination Match
The Spectral Envoy (Ultramantis Black & Frightmare) vs. Arik Cannon & Darin Corbin vs. 3.0 (Scott Parker & Shane Matthews) vs. The Bravados (Harlem & Lancelot Bravado)

This atomicos went to perfection. Everyone did their part greatly and everyone got a good rub out of this contest.
Grade: B

5. Eddie Kingston vs. The Shard

This was pretty good where you see Shard becoming the Ace of the GEKIDO with his charisma and dynamic. Kingston is dandy as always.
Grade: B-

6. Jigsaw vs. 17

Decent showing for both men, this was 17’s first match after coming back from an injury sustained by Quack. This match was another chapter of the 17 vs. Quackenbush where after the match you see Quack kicking the head out of 17.
Grade: C+

7. Young Lion’s Cup Semi-Final Match
ACH vs. Jakob Hammermeier

This wasn’t as good as I thought it would be. ACH was good but Jakob stunk it a bit. It’s not that bad but I was just let down.
Grade: C-

8. Soldier Ant & The Swarm (combatANT & deviANT) vs. F.I.S.T (Icarus, Chuck Taylor & Sugar Dunkerton)

Johnny Gargano couldn’t make the show so the card was shifted a bit. Also Wink Vavasseur using his intellect, inserts Sugar Dunkerton as a member of FIST  This match was highlighted by two trios with dissension, Soldier Ant hates the Swarm while Dunkerton is unwanted by FIST. Overall it was fantastic.
Grade: B-

9. Mike Quackenbush vs. Colt Cabana

This was scientific wrestling heaven. Cabana is one of the best performers out there, but very underrated as a wrestler. This guy can do a wrestling clinic with anyone and not stink it up. Quack is a world class wrestler so this sweet match up turned even sweeter.
Grade: B

Final Thoughts:

This was a solid show that did little to no harm. Chikara’s consistency is one of the best in professional wrestling without a shadow of a doubt. Storylines didn’t play much of a factor in this show so it was basically a classic pro wrestling spectacle.

Verdict: 7.5/10
