1. Kane vs. Finlay

I gotta give props to Finlay, he sure has a great mind for the business. Despite his small stature, the Irish man used his wits to deliver psychology on the big red machine focusing on the injured ribs. This sure isn’t a wrestling clinic but it’s a fun match to watch.
Grade: C

2. Intercontinental Championship
Umaga (c) vs. Carlito vs. Mr. Kennedy

Very awkward match up since all three of them are heels. Despite that, it was a fun match watching Carlito & Kennedy go forming an alliance to take down the Samoan Bulldozer. Carlito worked his ass of here with the high-flying offensive.
Grade: C+

3. Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero

For the second time they face each other in SummerSlam, and for the thousandth time they wrestle on another. This was a more aggressive match between the two and Chavo looked terrific here. But still doesn’t stand out from the other hundred matches they’ve had already.

4. Diva Battle Royal

Grade: DUD

MVP Beer Drinking Challenge

Matt Hardy & MVP were on a huge rivalry for the US title and have competed in a vast amount of contests to see who is the better man. It was a very fun segment that included the Texas Rattlesnake, Stone Cold Steve Austin, making his presence noticed.

5. ECW Championship
John Morrison (c) vs. CM Punk

Johnny Nitro replaced Chris Benoit in the finals to crown a new ECW champion and did so by defeating CM Punk. Two days later on ECW he changed his name to John Morrison and took a more serious attitude. CM Punk was red hot on the extreme brand and became the #1 contender for the title. They were highly competitive out wrestling on another with flashy moves. Pretty good match for the young stallions.
Grade: B-

6. King Booker w/Queen Sharmell vs. Triple H

The battle of the Kings in the WWE. Trips came back after a quad injury sustained on January and was welcomed by King Booker. The rest is history.
Grade: D-

7. World Heavyweight Championship
Great Khali (c) vs. Batista

Grade: F

8. WWE Championship
John Cena (c) vs. Randy Orton

Both superstars have broke in the business just around the same time and have collided in the ring constantly in OVW. They have come along way since then and now are headlining one of the biggest shows in professional wrestling. Cena was on a very lengthy reign as champion while Orton has slowly risen up the ranks taking a few superstars out of action. Orton was working on the head of the champion throughout the whole match which cemented his craft by utilizing the head punt as a finisher. Ok match.
Grade: C+

Special Features:

Kane vs. Great Khali (8.17.07) – F

Carlito’s Cabana (8.27.07) – A modern day Piper’s Pit with Carlito as host with guests Triple H & Mr. McMahon. Fun Segment.

In conclusion, this is a Deja-Vu to the previous SummerSlam. WWE was suffering the same fate as the previous year, however this time it was far worse. First of all, the plague of injuries that took out Shawn Michaels, Edge & the Undertaker, which the last two vacated their World titles. Then the departures of stars like Rob Van Dam & the Big Show were a minus to the roster. and finally the death of Chris Benoit, barely a month after of the incident, WWE was on the defensive mode with numerous attacks from the media which threw out the abuse of steroids in the business. This eventually became a top priority for the company and has highly regulated the use of drugs since then.

Verdict: 5.5/10
